Nature lovers and astronomy enthusiasts like to visit the Mauna Kea Summit in the big island of Hawaii. Here, visitors are treated to a spectacular views of the mountains and the night sky. But before you plan on visiting, be aware the summit is not as warm and friendly as the beaches. The weather on the summit can change suddenly and calm sunny day can quickly turn into stormy weather with strong winds and rain. There is also the risk of altitude sickness which is why pregnant women, persons with poor health and persons under the age of 16 aren’t allowed to visit the summit.

For those who want to visit the summit, the first place to visit here is the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station. The station is open every day of the year from 9AM until 10PM provides visitors the right health and safety information and education when going to the summit.
