Richardson Beach Park

The only black sand beach in the Hilo area.

Richardson Beach Park is located on the east of Hilo, in the big island of Hawaii. This place derives its name from its original owners, Elsa and George Richardson who still have a home there. This beach park is now managed by the county of Hawaii. It’s the only beach in the Hilo area with black sand.

The Richardson Beach Park is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. It’s a popular spot for swimming, diving, surfing, fishing and picnicking. This place has facilities like picnic areas, showers, restrooms and parking. There are also lifeguards on duty in the park.
